Natural Nutrition for your family
Is one of your New Year’s Resolutions to get more sleep? Here’s another good reason to ensure you’re getting enough sleep. According to a recent article in Taste for Life magazine, we “take out the trash” during sleep. The article quotes research from University of Rochester Medical Center that shows our bodies remove waste from the brain during sleep, clearing toxins that could eventually lead to Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.
The article quotes Maiken Nedergaard, MD of the University of Rochester Medical Center. “We need sleep. It cleans up the brain.”
I asked one of our nutrition consultants, Bernice (who has decades of experience as a medical nurse and in natural nutrition) to recommend some natural supplements to help with sleep. She stressed that every individual’s needs are different and selecting the right product involves 1) asking some important questions, 2) selecting a product that’s right for you, and 3) trying it for at least a week. Herbs and formulas effect individuals differently, and it may take more than one try to find the herb or formula that works for you.
If you fall asleep, but wake up after 2-3 hours, here are two natural products that may help.
1.) 5-HTP (5-hydroxy L-tryptophan) is a naturally occurring metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan. 5-HTP is converted in the brain to serotonin, and helps maintain mental and emotional well-being and promotes healthy sleep. This 5-HTP is extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia.
See what Dr. Oz had to say about 5-HTP. http://blog.doctoroz.com/is-this-right-for-you/5-htp-is-this-right-for-you
2.) Herbal Tea. A calm, soothing cup of tea made of natural herbs can help bring sleep naturally. This tea has a blend of 100% organic herbs- including Lemon Balm, Passionflower and Chamomile, to bring relaxation and encourage healthy sleep patterns.
If you’ve struggled for years to get restorative sleep, check out these natural products:
1.) Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that helps control our sleep and wake cycles. Normally, melatonin levels begin to rise in the mid to late evening, remain high for most of the night, and then drop in the early morning hours. Unfortunately, melatonin levels drop as we age.
2.) Gabatrol comes with a manufacturer’s guarantee. The manufacturer promises a full refund if the product does not work for you and you return the unused portion to them within 60 days of your date of order (see their website for more information on their guarantee). Gabatrol is a formula of 6 natural ingredients:
